Freedom Over Texas 2013

Houston will set the stage for an extraordinary patriotic celebration at Mayor Annise Parker’s official Fourth of July event, The annual event is held on Thursday, July 4, 2013 culminating with a fireworks extravaganza set to a perfectly timed bed of patriot and current musical selections.

This year’s featured entertainers are Sheryl Crow and Martina McBride! Sheryl Crow has won nine Grammy Awards, out of thirty nominations! Her music incorporates elements of rock, folk, hip hop, country, and pop. Country queen, Martina McBride has won the Country Music Association's "Female Vocalist of the Year" award four times (tied with Reba McEntire for the most wins) and the Academy of Country Music's "Top Female Vocalist" award three times.

The Ernest Walker Band will open the Freedom Stage with a mix of funky blues, pop and soul music. His ensemble includes featured soloist Tamar Davis who recently toured with Tyler Perry; Chris Walker who currently tours with Al Jarreau; Werner Richmond, a singer and actor currently on the national commercial for Toyota; and Erin Stevenson who has toured with Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. Also appearing on the Freedom Stage will be the Houston All Stars. Stopping home after national appearances on The Voice and American Idol, Savannah Berry, Simeon Montgomery and Vincent Powell will proudly perform live for their hometown celebration. Local rapper Rocko Narvios will pay a patriotic tribute with his “custom rap” penned especially for the festival.

On the Patriot Stage celebrants will enjoy the high energy and beats of The Marcie Chapa Project. Marcie has toured with Beyonce, Yolanda Adams, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez and Kanye West. Brian Jack and the Zydeco Gamblers will keep it lively with their Zydeco beat. Emily Bell will keep the celebration swinging with her retro-girl rockabilly fun. She recently toured with Texas singer songwriter Hayes Carll and was ranked No. 1 on the Interrobang.com list as one of the top five artists to watch at SXSW 2013.
